Nonlinear interactions in a hypersonic boundary layer

نویسندگان

چکیده

Nonlinear interactions between different disturbances in a hypersonic boundary layer are investigated by bispectral analysis. Experiments performed on flared cone at Mach 6 using fast-response pressure sensors and Rayleigh-scattering flow visualization. At the modal growth stage, phase-coupled sum have profound effects of disturbances. Then, difference contribute to spectral broadening. final nonlinear second mode low-frequency waves result stretching deformation mode, which breaks down smaller structures rapidly transitions turbulence.

Numerical Simulation of Shock-Wave/Boundary/Layer Interactions in a Hypersonic Compression Corner Flow

Numerical results are presented for the shock-boundary layer interactions in a hypersonic flow over a sharp leading edge compression corner. In this study, a second- order Godunov type scheme based on solving a Generalized Riemann Problem (GRP) at each cell interface is used to solve thin shear layer approximation of laminar Navier-Stokes (N-S) equations. The calculated flow-field shows general...

Influence on the Hypersonic Boundary-Layer Flow

For aerospace or hypersonic cruise vehicle the state of the boundary layer is of great importance because for turbulent boundary layers, the thermal loads and skin friction are higher than in laminar boundary layers. Therefore , knowledge of cooling features and laminar-turbulent transition is necessary for the design of the thermal protection system (TPS). Different strategies are used to redu...

Boundary Layer Control for Hypersonic Airbreathing Vehicles

Active and passive methods for tripping hypersonic boundary layers have been examined in NASA Langley Research Center wind tunnels using a Hyper-X model. This investigation assessed several concepts for forcing transition, including passive discrete roughness elements and active mass addition (or blowing), in the 20-Inch Mach 6 Air and the 31-Inch Mach 10 Air Tunnels. Heat transfer distribution...

Model Uncertainties in a Sharp Leading-Edge Hypersonic Boundary Layer

The effects of uncertainties in the gas-surface interaction and intermolecular interaction models on the hypersonic boundary layer development are investigated using the non-intrusive generalized polynomial chaos method. In particular, uncertainties in the surface shear stress, normal stress, heat flux, flowfield temperature and density resulting from uncertain viscosity exponent, surface tempe...

A Modified Flux Vector Splitting Scheme for Flow Analysis in Shock Wave Laminar Boundary Layer Interactions

The present work introduces a modified scheme for the solution of compressible 2-D full Navier-Stokes equations, using Flux Vector Splitting method. As a result of this modification, numerical diffusion is reduced. The computer code which is developed based on this algorithm can be used easily and accurately to analyze complex flow fields with discontinuity in properties, in cases such as shock...
